A Birthday Post

Typical me, start a post and then take too long to finish it. Here’s Lewis’ birthday post a couple of days late.

Lewis’ big day is finally here! He’s been waiting as patiently as a little guy can for it to finally be HIS birthday. A whole year is a long wait when you’re little. A year also seems extra long when you come from a large family and are often celebrating multiple birthdays each month.

7 Quick Takes vol. 4

Linking up with Kelly!

It’s been too long since my last Quick Takes post. Get ready for a truly scattered collection of quick-takes.

{one} I had a revelation a few days ago! It’s not actually profound, it’s more of a “duh” moment.

The mornings are for the kids!

As in, unless I get up before them, I do not try to fit in any personal prayer time (apart from a morning offering, which I usually pray before getting out of bed.), reading time, coffee enjoyment time, writing time, social media time, email time — you get the idea — until afternoon quiet time.

Why am I not prioritizing the morning, when the children are the happiest and their brains are the freshest, to accomplish school-time, read-aloud time, and just anything with the them time?!

Because I’m so selfish!

Morning snuggles

Back in December I went through a phase of getting out of bed before the kids and I was amazed at how smooth the day would go when I got my grogginess dealt with before my children bombarded me with their own little needs. It was great! But, even though I was waking up earlier, I was still struggling to put myself to bed. Leading up to Christmas I burned myself out with too many late nights prepping for the holiday festivities, and so ended my early mornings.

Well, I shouldn’t say ended. I have had a few weeks of successfully rising early in the morning. But it hasn’t been the norm.

Rosie’s Birth Story

In one week, our Rosie will be 6 months old. 6 months!! It’s only taken half a year for me to write out her birth story. At last, for those who didn’t get it in person and were curious as to how it all went down, here it is.

On October 1st (due date) I was having mildly uncomfortable, irregular contractions that seemed to be coming a little more frequently as we got closer to bed time. Adam and I had put the kids to bed fairly early and were able to enjoy some tea and visiting time before going to bed.

One month in!

Well, one month down for 2017. Here’s the extremely compact highlight reel for January: Kids started sleeping through the night most nights. Even Rosie has started sleeping through the night. She wakes up to nurse once, in the early hours of the morning, around 5:30, 6. I think the reason for this is that I caved and stopped forcing a soother on her. She’s been trying to suck her fingers for awhile and now that she does this she’s sleeping SO much! It’s awesome for now, but I know it will be difficult to put a stop to the finger sucking when she is older. Double edged sword.

Lewis potty trained like a champ. I’ve almost read all the Kristin Lavransdatter books in a week and a half, and some how we have avoided most of the illnesses going around at this time of year.

Lots of celebrating with new years day, a birthday just about every week, having company/being company… some weeks were full, and some were quiet, slow and lovely. The week Lewis potty trained we stayed at home the whole week and it was somewhere in between a full/quiet and slow week. I think it was my favourite week this month. The little guy seemed to change so much in that one week. He is  much more confident and so smiley, he’s talking way more and coming up with the cutest things. Maybe he just really needed some devoted mommy time. At any rate, I’d say it’s been a fairly solid start to the year.

2016 in a post

Since I barely blogged over 2016, I thought I would do a post compiling the highlights from each month. Here goes!

To kick off the year, I celebrated my 25th birthday. I had a Familia meeting that night and the church we met at had Adoration going on at the same time. Our meeting finished before Adoration was over, so I slipped into the Adoration chapel to say high to Jesus and literally tripped backwards into the confessional where a priest was patiently waiting for penitents. I took this as a sign that I was supposed to go to confession. It was a lovely way to kick-off my 25th year!! Apart from that, nothing extra special happened. Well, my parents kept the kids for that night, so I guess that’s something!

Fahlman Family Quotables vol. 3

I did a really poor job of blogging in 2016; I’m hoping 2017 will see more posts! I wanted  to squeeze in this quote post that I have been wanting to post for forever and just couldn’t carve out time to write it. Some of these quotes date all the way back to January. I did a poor job in several areas this past year, and keeping track of quotes was one area that slacked. There should be WAY more for a years worth. At any rate, here are the ones that caught my funny bone. They are ordered from oldest to newest.

She’s here!

And just like that we’re a family of 6!

Quick post to announce the arrival of our baby girl, Rose Helena! (As in Hel-en-a, not Hel-ay-na. We’ve had a few people ask, so I thought I would clarify.) Birth story to come at a later date, don’t you worry 😉 haha

Rose Helena Fahlman Born on October 2nd at 11:23pm — 7lbs 13oz — 21 1/2in

Her siblings are proud as punch! Marcus and Clara (especially Clara) love to hold her and will sit on the couch upwards of an hour without a request to have their arms relieved.

Clara is generous enough to let me hold “her baby Rose” when Rosie needs to nurse or have a diaper change.

Lewis requests to hold her, too, but after a of couple minutes (seconds?) he wants to carry her (oh my!) over to her rocket ship; aka rocking chair.

In short, she is loved to the point of smothering.

We are settling in well, but I would be lying if I didn’t say I was nervous for Adam to go back to work on Tuesday. I have plans of recruiting my teenage sister to come and help me with the kids, and then to maybe ship the older kids off for a night or two at my parent’s place. We shall see…

Thank you to everyone who has been remembering us in prayer!

Happy Thanksgiving!

Due Date!!!!

Yup, we’ve reached it. It really isn’t a surprise. I’ve never gone early, so I don’t know why I get my hopes up (every time!) that “this one will be different”.

7 Quick takes {vol. 3} Anniversary Edition

It’s the weekend! It’s my anniversary! And I’m linking up with Kelly with a 7 quick takes post!

6 years ago, on a sunny, but chilly, chilly Friday in September, a very young girl and boy stood at the altar and before God and family and friends, vowed to love and honour each other all the days of their life… In good times and in bad, in sickness and in health.
